Restoring the “Old Cathedral”

The restoration of Saint Francis Xavier Cathedral at Vincennes was recently completed. Evansville bishop, Gerald Gettlefinger consecrated the church’s new red oak altar at a Mass last weekend during which he carried the staff that belonging to Bishop Simon Brute, first Bishop of Vincennes.

The church building dates back to 1826 and the parish itself back to 1732. The parish is now within the boundaries of the Diocese of Evansville. The Vincennes Diocese is now the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Star maintained a link to this renovation, but it is no longer available.
