Although not having to do specifically with Indiana, I noted a piece on St. Anthony Messenger Press’ podcast, American Catholic Radio about Servant of God Demetrius Gallitzin, who was known as the Apostle of the Alleghenies. I mention him here because of the fact that he was the second priest ordained in the United States. According to the official website of his cause for sainthood, he was the first to go through all the stages of ordination, from tonsure to priesthood. The first ordained was Stephen Badin who served in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. Both men came out of St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, which later saw the likes of our own “Servant of God” Simon Bruté.
