On This Day…

On this day in 1834, just 5 1/2 short weeks after Bishop Simon Brute took possession of the Cathedral in Vincennes, Silas Francis Marean Chatard was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Ferdinand and Eliza Chatard. He was born with the name Silas and changed it to Francis when he became bishop.

Chatard’s family had a friendship with Elizabeth Seton and her sisters at Emmitsburg. Ferdinand Chatard attended Mount Saint Mary’s with Elizabeth Seton’s sons. Silas attended school at Mount Saint Mary’s as well.

The connections between certain persons and places is very interesting when you look closer…
