Then and Now

Today, May 12th marks some historical vents, both old and new.

First, congratulations to the new Bishop of Lafayette in Indiana (their official name). Msgr. Timothy Doherty was named to succeed Bishop Higi. Msgr. Doherty comes to Lafayette from the Diocese of Rockford, which was once part of the Diocese of Vincennes…

On this same day in 1878, Silas Marean Chatard was consecrated as the fifth Bishop of Vincennes. Of course, her later became the first Bishop of Indianapolis.

Yesterday marked the 140th anniversary of the birth of Joseph Chartrand the second Bishop of Indianapolis.
